Worship and Spiritual Expression

July

Both Tapestry and Bell Choirs are taking a break for the summer. Tapestry Choir will be performing once a month and special music will fill in the remaining weeks.

Pat Diehn hosted a brainstorming session for all scripture readers. We have scripture readers for the remaining of the 2009 year. There will be additional trainings in the fall, winter and spring to go over the basics on reading and additional resources that are available.

Pastor Tom is leading a bible study during the summer months discussing the Book of Acts. The verses discussed in the bible study correlate with the weekly scripture text in church on Sundays.

June

The Worship & Spiritual Expression Ministry took time to review the surveys that members of the congregation filled out. Many thanks to all of you who took the time to fill out these surveys. These surveys will help us in providing Immanuel with different worship opportunities!

We are now in the season of Pentecost. Members of the Tapestry Choir as well as other musicians were recognized on Pentecost Sunday on May 31st. The Bell Choirs will be recognized on Sunday, June 7th. This will be the Bell Choirs’ last performance until they resume practices in September. Over the summer, the choirs will take some much needed time off, so we have some opportunities for special music. Please contact Val if you are interested!

During the month of May, we have had an opportunity to hear worship from our seminary students, Jenny Lee and Ken Hinz. Our Congrats to Jenny on receiving her degree from Chicago Theological Seminary in May!

As a final note, the organ is now complete! On May 30th, we had a dedication performance and we really had the opportunity to “test” out the organ. Many thanks to all of the musicians who helped out with the event!

As always, we are looking for volunteers to serve as ushers and greeters and possible scripture readers.

Have a great summer!

The last Bell Choir rehearsal will be on Wednesday, June 3rd with a performance and Bell Choir Recognition on Sunday June 7th. Many thanks to those who participated in all of the Lenten and Easter worship services, including the weekly Taizé worship services and the Maundy Thursday service. Thank you to all of the members of the music ministry who shared their talents with us!

Over the next few weeks, our services will be led by our two seminary students, Ken Hinz and Jenny Lee. Also, we are continuing to find different patterns of worship that will be pleasing to everyone. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please see anyone on the Worship and Spiritual expression Ministry.

We are continuing the search for a permanent Director of Music Ministries as well. If you have any questions, please see John Burton or any member of the Music Ministry Search Team.

Our Mission

Equipping the congregation to be invitational and share hospitality, welcoming all the community to our worship environment, inviting the congregation to be ushers and greeters, talk with newcomers and reach out to the community inviting them in is our Mission.

The range of spiritual emotional connection in worship through the many styles and cultures of music.

Sharing the gifts of the table with everyone, embracing the diverse presentations of the Last supper, and learning the true meaning of the communion experience.

Empowering people with an appreciation of Scripture through the Written Word whether read orally or silently.
